Magazines Subscription Survey reveals a nation of homebirds

The first national survey of the reading habits of over 2 million UK magazine subscribers by magazinesbymail.net has revealed a nation of home lovers – with house and home dominating the top titles for subscribers.

Computer buffs abound with computer magazines being the second most popular topic. Reading preferences then take a twist from hi-tech to more traditional with sewing and knitting titles taking third place.

Pedal power triumphed over horse power with cycling titles proving more popular than car and motorbike magazines.

The research also highlighted some marked trends across the UK with people in Scotland most likely to opt for a fishing title, and counties across East Anglia being the main destination for twitchers’ titles – birdwatching magazines being most popular in this region.

People in the South East are the most health conscious with subscribers there twice as likely to opt for a health and fitness magazine than anywhere else in the country. In the North Cheshire dominates its northern neighbours in the keep fit stakes, with walking and cycling being two of the favourite themes.

Brides to be in London are the most likely to do their homework in preparation by subscribing to a bridal magazine, with mums to be in Surrey, Berkshire and Hertfordshire most likely to get broody with some baby banter.

Emily Travis, Publishing Manager, Royal Mail said: “The survey revealed some interesting trends in the topics of magazines read by people in different regions across the UK. The results also showed that whatever the topic, people like to take out a subscription to make sure they never miss a copy of their favourite magazine.”

There are 1000's of magazine titles to subscribe to so there’s a magazine to suit all interests and hobbies, from fashion to fishing and celebrities to crochet, there’s a title for everyone.

There’s not always enough space for every magazine title on the shelves of newsagents so wherever you live and whatever your interests, a magazine subscription ensures you get every edition delivered to your home.

With Christmas just around the corner a magazine subscription also makes a truly unforgettable gift - its arrival through the letter box being a regular reminder that you care throughout the year.

It is easy to take out a magazine subscription. Look inside your favourite magazine and you’ll find details on how to subscribe or visit www.magazinesbymail.net where you’ll find links to 100's titles available for subscription.
