SCRATCHING COOKBOOK IS PURE 'PORKFECTION'
It is probably not a publication Jamie Oliver or Delia Smith would approve of, but the latest cookbook to hit the shelves certainly has a meaty flavour to it.
‘Cooking With Mr Porky’ includes 50 tempting recipes to try at home where the main ingredient is the beer swillers’ favourite, pork scratchings.
Developed by the makers of Britain’s best selling scratchings, Mr Porky, the book can help budding at-home chefs cook their way quite literally to hog heaven.
On the menu is everything from chicken soup with pork crunch croutons to a radish and fennel salad garnished with crushed scratchings.
Bags of Mr Porky can also be used to make flavoured pie or pizza crusts as well as crunchy toppings for meat and fish portions and a savoury pancake mix.
Sarah Nunn from Red Mill Snack Foods, which has been making Mr Porky for more than 30 years, said: “This is a first for our brand but Mr Porky has such a loyal following we thought the time was right to offer people something different.
“Pork scratchings are a proven favourite down the pub and given time we hope the same can be said for the kitchen store cupboard.”
Cooking with Mr Porky is available in paperback from 1 April and costs £9.99. Copies can be purchased from Red Mill’s factory in Wednesbury in the West Midlands or online.
Sarah added: “We’ll see how popular the book turns out to be but it would be fantastic to eventually secure a listing with one of the big supermarkets or bookstores. We’ve always said what a versatile snack Mr Porky is and the sheer variety of recipes our team has created goes to prove it.”
