Paul Stevenson, MD of Innovatek Medical Ltd, will review the latest applications techniques of plasma polymer processing at Biomedical Surfaces 2006 at Cambridge on 10th October. His presentation will include applications of a new desktop plasma treatment system that enables many types of low temperature treatments to plastic surfaces, to enable lubricity, adhesion, changes in permeability and biocompatibility to be engineered to suit clinical and drug delivery applications.
"This new plasma technology," says Paul, " is revolutionising many polymer applications in the biomedical world. It opens up opportunities for drug companies to enhance drug delivery performance, and enables clinicians to tailor polymer surfaces to suit patients' needs." Innovatek 's desktop technology enable all types of polymer components, subsystems and small devices to be treated using processes such as surface cleaning, conditioning and etching, and surface modification, chemical functional changes, polymer surface cross linking and polymerisation of functional coatings.
Other papers at Biomedical Surfaces 2006, a one-day seminar sponsored by Tecvac Ltd, include both hard coating and soft coating technologies for biomedical applications in orthopaedics, cardiology and other sectors, the interaction of proteins and cells with solid surfaces and methods of changing surface chemistries, presentations on the latest titanium nitride, Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) and other coatings and treatments for metal, ceramic and polymer surfaces used in biotechnology and biomedical devices
