Telcontar Partner Appello launches WISEPILOT with TeliaSonera

Telecommunications leader to offer Appello’s off-board navigation application powered by Telcontar technology

Telcontar, a leading supplier of software and related services for the Location-Based Services (LBS) industry, today announced that TeliaSonera, the Nordic and Baltic telecommunications leader, will be offering Appello’s WISEPILOT™ mobile navigation service to its customers. WISEPILOT from Appello incorporates the powerful functionality of Telcontar’s geospatial software platform, the Drill Down Server® (DDS).


WISEPILOT allows TeliaSonera customers to turn their mobile phones into advanced navigation devices with up-to-date map and travel information. WISEPILOT uses an “off-board” DDS server from Telcontar to deliver maps, driving directions and information on local points of interest and businesses directly to Java enabled phones on the TeliaSonera network. Conventional navigation devices store all the map and point-of-interest data on the device making updates for changes in roads or businesses difficult. By contrast, off-board applications such as WISEPILOT get this information from the Telcontar DDS that are frequently updated with the latest available data. The Telcontar DDS geospatial software platform also allows Appello to easily integrate digital maps and traditional database content drawn from multiple sources for fast, accurate access to the user. The DDS provides flexible, patented spatial searching, geocoding and routing for location-based services (LBS) applicati
ons.
