Adventure travel experts Discovery Initiatives launch a unique Elephant Safari in Botswana

Discovery Initiatives the leading www.discoveryinitiatives.co.uk' target='_blank'>adventure travel experts are offering a new unique Elephant Safari to study the highly endangered, elusive Wild Dog, Leopard and the largest herds of Elephants left in Africa, plus…… a myriad of Lion, Hyena, Bat Eared Foxes and huge Kori Bustard.

This elephant safari is for those who want to escape and feel alone and at one with the magnificent creatures of Botswana at the same time as contributing to further conservation and research.

Botswana is famous for having some of the largest herds of elephant left in Africa and the vast, sparsely populated landscapes of the Tuli Block in the far east of the country make it an ideal habitat for studying these intelligent creatures. Also here, near the Limpopo River and its tributaries, between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana, are some of the top leopard and wild dog specialists undertaking vital research on two of the most fascinating predators.

Working closely with those specialists this safari in Botswana offers a unique opportunity to join their group trip and learn to track and study elephants, leopard and wild dog and set up a long term ecological monitoring programme in an area which has been little touched by humans since the 19th century, when explorers like Sir Thomas Baines and Selous trekked northwards. Discovery Initiatives started their research projects in 1999 – a century and half later!

This hands-on safari programme is in small groups of between 4 and 8 people, and is based at two comfortable lodges beside the Limpopo River, one in South Africa and one in Botswana.

Dates in 2007 include April, May, Aug, Oct, Nov for an 11 day trip (UK to UK) from £2395per person.
