THE MENOPAUSE DOESN'T JUST AFFECT THE OVER-50S

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release-2 August 2004

The menopause doesn’t just affect the over-50s

Thousands of women in the UK experience a premature menopause (before they reach age 45) putting them at risk of fertility problems and osteoporosis. They may suffer from hot flushes, mood swings, tiredness and period problems. Yet many of them don’t recognise these symptoms as being due to the menopause and delay seeking help.

The summer issue of The Menopause Exchange newsletter looks at the problem of premature menopause (premature ovarian failure) and its diverse causes. The article, written by Doctor Jenny Williamson (menopause specialist and breast clinician in Birmingham), also covers the signs and symptoms and management of this distressing problem among younger women.

“When most people talk about the menopause, they think of 50-something women experiencing hot flushes and mood swings. What they don’t realise is that younger women are affected too. Premature menopause can interfere with a woman’s whole life including
her ability to have children. The Menopause Exchange provides women of all ages with advice and information on the menopause, HRT and alternatives, related topics like osteoporosis and other relevant issues,” says Norma Goldman, founder and director of
The Menopause Exchange.

The Menopause Exchange provides women and health professionals with unbiased, accurate information. It is completely independent – it is not sponsored by any companies and is funded purely by subscriptions. Other articles in the Summer 2004 issue include HRT and the decision-making process, pharmacy help for the menopause and high blood pressure. The Menopause Exchange has an Ask the Experts panel and fact sheets specifically for members.

For more info on The Menopause Exchange, write to The Menopause Exchange at PO Box 205, Bushey, Herts WD23 1ZS, call 020 8420 7245, fax 020 8954 2783 or send an e-mail to norma@menopause-exchange.co.uk
