The Best in Business - The 2007 British Hairdressing Business Awards Winners Announced
The ninth annual British Hairdressing Business Awards has announced the individuals and salons who have each won a prestigious award at an exclusive presentation, hosted by ITV’s most respected newscaster, Sir Trevor MacDonald at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.
Hairdressers Journal International launched the British Hairdressing Business Awards in 1999 to raise the profile of the professional hairdressing industry to recognise and reward innovation, business acumen and excellence throughout the industry. “Dedication and commitment to excellence is something that each finalist has demonstrated,” commented Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr. “Each finalist represents the best the hairdressing industry has to offer.”
To enter the British Hairdressing Business Awards, salons or individuals have to meet the criteria set down by the sponsors and the organisers. The initial judging process is held over two days, with two representatives from each of the sponsors – Wella Professionals, Schwarzkopf Professional, Fudge, Racoon International, Clynol Salon Exclusive, Sabre, Sebastian Professional, L’Oreal Professionnel, Hairaisers, Veaudry and Welonda taking part in the 1st day. Judges cannot confer with one another during the judging, with the individual judges marking all entries independently.
The top entries in each category are put forward to the next round of the judging process. An independent panel of judges including web designers, interior designers, a finance manager and journalists from Real Business Magazine, City AM, Marie-Claire and the Daily Telegraph along with independent industry experts judge these dossiers. The judges go through the same process as before, marking each entry individually. In some categories, salons may receive mystery client visits or calls, and finalists in the Junior/Assistant of the Year, Manager of the Year and Business Director of the Year categories take part in face-to-face interviews.
The night got off to a fantastic start as Scottish salon owners, Alan & Linda Stewart of Rainbow Room International were inducted into the British Hairdressing Business Awards Hall of Fame for the second time, having won the Training Award category three times and previously been awarded the Salon Team of the Year Award three times. Also inducted into the Hall of Fame were Kingston-upon-Thames based Headquarters, as they had won the Salon of the Year Award three times. Rainbow Room International and Headquarters join the illustrious group of hairdressing salons who have previously been inducted into the Hall of Fame - Seanhanna, Paterson SA, Ishoka and Headlines. Individual awards were announced after a cocktail reception and four-course dinner. Winners received an exclusive, beautifully designed British Hairdressing Business Awards trophy inlaid with eighteen-carat gold.
