EGS Appoints Jerry Ellis as Executive Chairman
Senior Management Appointment to Steer EGS Through Next Critical Phase of Growth, Following Record Year and 50% Market Share of UK Public Sector
EGS Ltd, the UK’s largest and fastest growing ecommerce Exchange for the public sector and its suppliers, today announced the appointment of Jerry Ellis as Executive Chairman. Jerry will provide management leadership and strategic guidance as the company prepares for its next phase of growth. Transactions in EGS’ exchanges have surpassed 250,000 purchases per year, whilst its market share of the UK public sector now exceeds fifty percent, making it the most successful public sector eProcurement Exchange in Europe. Jerry will be steering the company through its next critical phase of growth as it continues to scale to meet customer demand for its public sector product and services portfolio.
As an experienced, hands-on business leader in both executive and non-executive roles, Jerry brings significant technology and IT services experience to EGS. He has worked extensively with various divisions of the NHS and the Department of Health, working at executive senior management levels with IBM and PWC. He was formerly Executive Chairman of TBC Group Ltd, a leading IBM business partner, and was also Group Chief Executive of ECsoft Group plc, a FTSE-listed European Systems Integrator. Throughout his management career, Jerry has served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, International Division for Acxicom Corporation,
a NASDAQ listed CRM and Data Outsourcing specialist. He also spent seven years with IBM,most recently as Executive Assistant to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of IBM UK, and General Manager for IBM’s International Banking and UK Public Sector Divisions.
“EGS solutions directly address the pressures facing public sector customers, which is why its market share has grown at such a rapid rate, particularly in local government, education and emergency services,” said Jerry Ellis, Executive Chairman of EGS Ltd. “With its proven track record, comprehensive products, consultancy services division and key partnerships, the company is ideally placed to harness this momentum and expand into other areas of the public sector, such as Social Care and Central Government. It is an exciting time to be joining and I look forward to the challenge of successfully leading the company through its next phases of growth and expansion.”
EGS has seen a record 500% growth in the past two years alone, fuelled by demand for its automated end-to-end pay to purchase processes, which are now used by more than 150 buying organisations across the public sector, more than 30,000 suppliers, as well as the majority of the major public purchasing consortia. There's £100 billion of e-procureable spend in the UK public sector every year. The combined efficiencies of business process cost savings and e-procurement cost savings delivered by EGS have the potential to save the public purse well over £1 billion per annum. With almost one million online catalog items, the largest available in
the market, EGS Exchanges also have the potential to reduce the unit price of goods and services by as much as 30 per cent.
The whole of the UK public sector represents fifty percent of the total UK economy. According to the Office of Government Commerce, there's £110 billion of non capital spend in the public sector per annum. The Government mandated that by 2010, the key 2,500 public sector bodies’ 50,000 suppliers will be trading electronically. Major savings are predicated on a collaborative environment. e-Procurement systems provide greater information to buying organisations on where to find the best deals, enabling them to take advantage of aggregated buying and reduce their costs by 35-40%through better intelligence.
