Northgate chosen to provide enhancements for HES Service

Northgate Information Solutions today announced that is enhancing the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) website under its contract with The Information Centre of the NHS.

HES is the national statistical data warehouse for England, containing information over a range of topics, including operations and diagnoses, on the care provided to patients treated in NHS hospitals.

Northgate’s development is set to provide a range of interactive content for the website, which will provide users with easier, faster and more convenient access to HES data specific to their area of interest.

Other advantages include:

­- Improved feedback to data providers, enabling more effective monitoring of data quality and correction of errors;

­- Intelligent monitoring of requests submitted to the website, leading to improvements in content that is tailored to users’ needs.

As part of the enhancement, Northgate is also developing links to external datasets such as the ONS deaths registrations, which would provide users with a consistent view of mortality across the NHS. With improved access to statistics such as these, the medical profession of today can be helped in the development of new treatments and the outcomes of current treatments.
