Very Interesting Eighteenth century pocket watch for sale in Birmingham auction

10th October 2007 – for immediate release

Eighteenth century pocket watch for sale in Birmingham auction

A beautiful eighteenth century pocket watch is going on sale at a specialist wrist and pocket watches auction later this month.

It is one of the highlights of 472 items being sold by Fellows & Sons on Monday 22nd October 2007, starting at 11am.

The auctioneer is based in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, UK.

Its managing partner Stephen Whittaker said: "This is a gorgeous watch that any collector would be delighted to own. It is extremely well made and has a unique design."

The pocket watch has an under painted horn and gilt metal pair case, with studded tortoiseshell bezel painted with a fern design.

The under painted horn depicts a Masonic all-seeing eye above a scene of a woman holding a baby. She has two children at her feet and is flanked by two further females in classical dress.

A key is needed to wind the watch.

It has a white dial, black Roman numerals and has been signed by the maker William Collett of Uxbridge.

The movement is Verge Fusee with baluster pillars.

Experts have valued the watch at between £500 and £600.

There are many other antique watches also up for sale on the same day.

While the auction happens in real time in Birmingham, anyone can monitor it and make bids online, from anywhere in the world.

Fellows & Sons has invested heavily in virtual catalogues and internet sales technology.
