Devon Based Tele Sales Executive hits ‘Gold’ at British Transplant Games

Lisa Kernick, 24, who works as part of the telesales team at the Devon office of IT Company Avanquest has recently been awarded a Gold for tennis at the 30th British Transplant Games in Edinburgh.

Lisa had a liver transplant in December 2001 after suffering acute liver failure on Christmas Eve. The transplant has not deterred Lisa in either her career or sporting ambitions.

This year Lisa joined Avanquest in the role of telesales executive, covering the UK and Channel sales for Avanquest’s data mining software solution. She also achieved her first Gold at the games, improving on her first competitive success in 2006 when she won Silver for tennis and Bronze for her badminton achievement.

“Drive and determination is key to any sales career and in a very short time Lisa has demonstrated to us that she has lots of both. We are lucky to have her on our team” said Kris Smith, Product Manager at Avanquest.

Lisa’s drive was precipitated by the premature death of her mother whilst she was competing at her first ever games last year. “My mother loved me to play tennis and I wanted to improve on last years result and make my mother proud” she said.

Lisa explains the games. “The main purpose is to promote awareness of the importance of organ donation and to get more names on the organ donor register. But they also show the public and donor families the amazing results of organ donation. Competitors represent the hospitals in which they received their transplant, in my case Kings College Hospital in London.” Over 40 teams compete, made up of between 600-900 adult and child competitors, with 16 different events to take part in.

Lisa has been asked to compete in the tennis event at the 2009 World Transplant Games, an annual 50 country global event, which in 2009 takes place in Adelaide, Australia. “I will be looking for sponsorship to help me fund my way to Adelaide so I can represent the UK!” says Lisa.
