New Book: DROP DEAD BRILLIANT - Dazzle in the Workplace with Confidence and Panache!

Whether you’re an MD, just starting your career, or returning to the workplace, good personal branding can help you clinch a deal, win that dream job and earn you more money, but how do you get it right? In Drop Dead Brilliant – Dazzle in the Workplace with Confidence and Panache! (McGraw-Hill (US & UK), November 2007, £9.99), global personal branding expert Lesley Everett, teaches you how to take control of your personal brand image and reputation, and learn the key steps to positive image impact – for life.

Like it or not, how we present ourselves from our style of clothing to body language speaks volumes – it takes just seven seconds to create a first and lasting impression. In these split seconds we are automatically judged on our social status, intelligence, competence and value by anyone we meet, which is why our personal branding is crucial to our success in the workplace and influences what everyone thinks of us – work colleagues, employers, friends, family - in fact any one we ever meet.

In Drop Dead Brilliant Lesley delivers her advice on first impressions, appearances, body indicators and everything else needed to present yourself with confidence and greater visibility. Just like a product, we all have a personal brand image whether we’ve consciously developed it or not, and this collection of perceptions that people have about you can either work for you, or against you.

But personal branding isn’t just about creating a great visual image, and it's certainly not about creating one that doesn’t reflect your true individuality and personality. A powerful personal brand image and reputation goes much deeper than simply style and grooming, it’s about Lesley’s ‘seven point plan to personal branding’ -

1.Decide Who You Really Are.
A strong personal brand is authentic.

2. Make a Positive First Impression.
Does your first impression reinforce your positive brand, or do people really not ‘get’ the real you when they meet you for the 1st time?

3. Dress Like You Mean It.
Clothes are the external clues to your personality. Style and grooming are the visual packaging of your personal brand. The way you present yourself should invite trust and credibility. Dress appropriately.

4. Silent Indicators.
Body talk speaks volumes about your thoughts – understand body language and offer a genuine smile, good handshake and positive eye contact when you meet and work with people.

5.Speak Easy.
Are you being heard? Voice quality matters! What does your voice convey about your brand? Have you really listened to your voicemail message on your phone and mobile to hear how professional and interesting you sound?

6.Be Interested and Visible.
Being interested in others makes you a more interesting person. How do you rate your interaction skills with others? Are you memorable for the right reasons?

7.Each Time, All the Time.
Consistency is crucial. For any brand to be 100% successful, it has to be 100% consistent – your brand image must be too or your will lack impact and clarity.

Improving your personal branding is not only empowering, but crucially, can give you a better chance of success, whether your are at the start of a job ladder, returning to work after a career or maternity break, or achieving that promotion.

So whatever your career, lifestyle, or goals, Drop Dead Brilliant is for anyone who wants to improve their personal ‘sell-ability’, so you can move on up and get ahead in your professional life!
