‘Cask’ Your Vote During Beer Election Week

Britain’s first ever beer election is about to take place – and thankfully there’s not a politician in sight.

Cask Marque, the organisation which accredits pubs serving the perfect pint, has launched the Best of British Beer Awards in association with national newspaper the Daily Telegraph.

Beer buffs across the country will be able to vote for their favourite real ale at ‘polling stations’ inside their Cask Marque accredited local from Sunday 18 March.

Special voting forms printed on beer mats will be provided ready for posting into a bar-top ballet box.

The election runs until 25 March, with 10 different regional winners due to be announced in April once the votes are counted. All of the winning brewers will also be invited to a celebratory awards lunch.

Cask Marque director Paul Nunny said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for cask ale drinkers to vote for their favourite pint and get recognition for their favourite brewer through a prestigious new award.”

Mike Benner, chief executive of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), added: “Pubs are the best places to enjoy the cool, natural freshness of a pint of cask ale and this competition will encourage customers to be proud of their local pubs and brewers.”

Voters can check where their nearest polling station is by visiting www.cask-marque.co.uk or by texting ‘cask’ followed by a full stop and then their postcode to 83211.

Cask Marque has awarded quality standards to 3,800 UK pubs and tests around 27,000 pints of ale every year for their temperature, appearance, aroma and taste.
