DVT AT YOUR DESK - experts and advice available
Following today’s news and recent research on the high risk of DVT at your desk we have spokespeople and case studies available if you are planning any features.
Mr John Scurr, leading Cardiovascular Surgeon, Lister Hospital, London is currently researching this area and recognises that many city workers are at risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Mr Scurr is available for further comment and has also developed tips for maintaining healthy circulation whilst at your desk:
•Take 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a day, before work, during lunch or after work. If you can’t fit this in try to walk to the shops at lunch time or to and from work.
•If you do work long hours be sure to get out of your seat from time to time. Take tea or coffee breaks. Walk to other desks rather than using the phone or e-mail.
•Maintain a healthy weight
•Instead of an aspirin take a natural circulation boosting supplement such as Zinopin Daily®
•Minimise use of high heels tight boots or socks.
•Avoid crossing your legs at the knees or sit with your feet crossed underneath you.
•You can try to exercise your legs at your desk by tapping your feet or use a circulation booster cushion. This causes calf muscles to contract, thereby keeping the blood flowing.
•Reduce consumption of alcohol and caffeine
•Keep hydrated by drinking water
For further info or to speak to Doctor John Scurr please contact Sallyanne Jones at Pegasus on 01903 821550.
Quote from Mr John Scurr.
"I see examples of office workers with DVT everyday and on average, two patients per week with blood clotting problems. I am currently 66% of the way through a study where people in sedentary occupations within the city have been receiving Zinopin Daily or a placebo. From a previous pilot study Zinopin Daily offers protection against thrombo embolic disease”.
