COOLER CRASH HELMETS
MEDIA INFORMATION
RELEASE DATE: IMMEDIATE
COOLER CRASH HELMETS
A NEW product designed to dry and freshen crash helmets has been developed by MDT (Matrix Development Technology).
DRI-LID ™ uses a small fan that circulates a steady flow of fresh air which evaporates moisture and eliminates bacteria. It can be used by anyone who wears any type of protective headgear such as motor racing drivers, cyclists, powerboat pilots and equestrian competitors.
DRI-LID ™ was designed by Kevin Dyer of MDT as a safe and simple way to remove the discomfort of wearing a damp, sweaty crash helmet.
Kevin said: “Recently I was working on an event with a sports-car team and one of the drivers complained that his crash helmet was uncomfortable to put back on after he came back from lunch ready for another practice session. This made me realise that there was a need and a market for such a product, and that this could be extended to other sports such as cycling, horse riding and motorcycling.”
Kevin works primarily in the motorsports arena, and the 1st prototype was made from carbon fibre, but this would have been too cost inhibitive and could have had potential safety problems as carbon fibre is an electrical and thermal conductor, so instead he opted for vacuum formed polycarbonate as this is a safer and more durable alternative.
DRI-LID ™ is lightweight, portable and safe and easy to use. It is powered by a 240 v 13 amp power supply, and 12 v versions will soon be available. DRI-LID ™ retails at £49.99 and is available from http://www.matrix-dt.com
Kevin Dyer first entered the motorsport world as a fabricator and welder, and has worked in the industry for over 20 years, as both staff and a self employed contractor for teams including Reynard Racing, March Engineering, Leyton House and Jaguar Sport.
Kevin made the career change from welding to composites with E.M.C, building an all carbon fibre grand prix motorcycle. He then concentrated on composites and worked for Arrows F1 on carbon fibre chassis and gearboxes, from there he went on to manage the race team composite department at Prodrive. He has since provided onsite repairs and NDT (non destructive testing) for various teams at events such as Le Mans, the Dakar Rally and A1 GP.
