SIMPLY GOOD FOOD, SIMPLY ORGANIC
Founded in 1998, Simply Organic was created by two inspiring and determined women who set out to make good, organic food for busy people. Ten years and 18 products launches on, the brand is still committed to offering convenient, ready to eat organic products without compromising on ingredients, making it number one in the organic prepared food sector.
The company was set up by Belinda Mitchell and Christine Manson, two working mothers, frustrated by the lack of convenient organic food on the market. Brought together by their passion for food, they set out to devise a food range for people just like themselves; busy people, looking for organic, hassle-free food for themselves and their families.
“When we started out, organic food wasn’t nearly as available as it is now and we did face obstacles in finding ingredients that we felt were up to our standards. That’s why, initially, all our products were vegetarian – organic meat has only more recently become widely available. We now have a range of ‘Meals with Meat’ and we can organically source almost every ingredient that you would cook with,” explains Belinda.
The company launched the 1st fresh organic soups and pasta sauces available in the UK, expanding the range to include Pure and Pronto ready meals in 2003 and the Meals with Meat range in 2007. Now stocked in all the major supermarkets, it is estimated that a product from the Simply Organic range is bought every five seconds in the UK.
“Consumers are now more aware of the benefits of organic food for themselves as well as for the environment and animal welfare. We hope that we have played a small part in helping organic food to become more mainstream and to make products which meet the demands of people like ourselves,” adds Christine.
The organic sector is currently experiencing a 30 per cent year on year growth with sales in 2006 alone climbing to over £1 billion. More than 20 million British households now count organic food as part of their everyday diet.
“Our heart and soul goes into every one of our products,” comments Belinda. “We only use real ingredients; if it can’t be found in an average kitchen, it won’t be in our products. We avoid any kind of modified starch, additives or preservatives, regardless of whether they are officially organic.”
“At Simply Organic we embrace the organic philosophy that our health is directly connected to the health of the food we eat. All our products are packed full of vegetables to help with reaching the all important Five-A-Day, and many are low in fat and salt.” continues Belinda. In a recent independent survey of 578 soups, five out of 11 products with the lowest salt levels were from Simply Organic – the best of all the brands tested.
“We have a passion for good food and a passion for life and that’s the philosophy behind all our products,” says Christine. “We believe convenient food can be tasty and nutritious too and we hope that with our products we are making organic more accessible.”
