High tech shock sensor meets new security industry standard

Elmdene has introduced its high specification Spyder shock sensor, designed to meet the requirements for installation under the new European intruder alarms standard (EN50131 and PD6662). The unit is Grade 3, Environmental Class II and is suitable for the protection of commercial and domestic premises.

The solid state shock sensor incorporates the latest digital signal processing technology and uses a specially derived algorithm to minimise false activations. Each unit draws less than 10 mA in full alarm, and carries out a self check on power on to ensure trouble free operation.

The unit has a number of operating modes, selectable by on-board jumpers. These include fully adjustable sensitivity over two ranges, set/unset, latch, discreet mode and sustain mode, which will signal an alarm event only when it has detected a sustained series of vibrations. This improves tolerance to normal shock events that aren't valid alarms, for example bird impacts.

Multiple units can be combined in an array to provide protection for large areas. Using the Spyder's multi synchronisation feature, an array of units with their alarm outputs connected in series can be configured to indicate the 1st unit to detect an alarm event. The first unit triggered shows a flashing LED, while subsequently triggered units display a steady LED.
