Breakthrough Team Appointed To Help Businesses Drive Down Carbon Emissions

* Heavy weight business players and leading scientists join forces at Greenstone Carbon Management to tackle the practical issues of reducing carbon footprints*

Experts from the environment and scientific community have come together with leaders from the world of business to provide companies with the 1st tool to account for and reduce their carbon footprints which tracks actual performance. Marcus Gregson, founder Chief Executive of HSBC Private Bank, takes on the role of Non Executive Chairman at Greenstone Carbon Management. He will be working alongside climate specialist Professor Paul Valdes, who has been appointed as Non Executive Director, and Doctor Kevin Anderson, Director of the Tyndall Centre’s Energy and Climate Change programme, who will be responsible for consulting on carbon emissions reduction strategies, at the new carbon management company.

Heading up the team of renowned environmental experts and business leaders is Doctor Belinda Howell who has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Greenstone. She brings with her a wealth of corporate environmental and social responsibility experience, previously running Business in the Environment and more recently working as European Director of Sustainable Solutions at URS Corporation.

Howell comments: “Greenstone brings together a unique blend of scientific and business experience. We provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for carbon accountability – a combination of carbon footprinting; carbon reduction strategy advice; continuous carbon balance monitoring; and credible offset programmes.

“Companies need to act now and take account of their carbon footprints or face financial penalties further down the road. Greenstone Carbon Management works in partnership to help companies account for and drive down carbon, mitigate the impact of emissions, and realise significant operational cost savings. we are committed to building long-term partnerships with major companies, enabling them to drive carbon down and keep it down year on year.”

Valdes adds: "We are reaching a critical point with climate change, as the fourth IPCC review of the scientific evidence of global climate change, soon to be published, will show. We have to start doing something about it now. There's no turning back once we've gone over the tipping point."

Anderson concludes: “A pre-requisite of any effective strategy for reducing a company’s carbon footprint is to know its size and understand from where in the organisation it arises. If an organisation’s emissions cannot be measured accurately, it will not be possible to bring about meaningful and lasting carbon reductions.”
