Crampex National Sleep Disturbance Week - 23 to 29 October 2006

Are you interested in an article to tie in with Crampex National Sleep Disturbance Week (23-29 October 2006)? Please see below results from a new sleep survey and some tips of getting a good night's sleep. We also have experts and case studies available. If you would like any further information then please e-mail eglazier@pegasuspr.co.uk or call 01903 821550.

Secrets to a Good Night's Sleep

A survey conducted by Crampex found that thirty-four per cent – that’s over a third of us - regularly suffer from a disturbed night’s sleep. More than 50% of these people blamed their bodies for keeping them awake at night, rather than external factors such as traffic or noisy neighbours. For those kept awake by their bodies, the most common triggers were stress, back pain and nocturnal cramps.

Nocturnal muscle cramp is an extremely painful and distressing condition, which affects over 13 million people in the UK . Crampex is the only product available without prescription for the prevention and treatment of muscle cramp. Crampex costs from £4.25 for a pack of 24 tablets and is available over the counter from pharmacies.

If you are having sleep problems, whether you aren't able to fall asleep, wake up too often, do not feel well-rested when you wake up in the morning, or simply want to improve the quality and quantity of your sleep, then try the following top tips:

Keep to a routine each night that allows you time to relax – having a warm bath for half an hour or reading a book before bedtime will help you relax and sleep well.

Make your bedroom a haven of tranquility - use soft lighting, make sure it is clear of clutter, keep your bedroom well ventilated and use a candle to give it a pleasant and relaxing smell.

Taken action to prevent factors that can regularly disturb sleep - if you are being woken in the night be a snoring partner or nocturnal muscle cramps then take action. Try Crampex for preventing night cramps, which is available from pharmacies priced from £4.25.

Keep a pen and paper beside your bed – this will allow you to write down your worries and anxieties so you don’t have to lie awake all night worrying about them.

Buy the biggest and best bed you can - you spend 25 years of your life in bed so you should feel totally comfortable.

If your bed partner stops you sleeping, consider separate beds/bedrooms - far from it being the end of intimacy, it could be the start. After a good night’s sleep – without your partner’s snoring or fidgeting - you'll be more refreshed and in a better mood.

Take time out from trying to fall asleep - If you wake in the middle of the night and are awake for more than 15 minutes then do something else (e.g. read) rather then tossing and turning all night trying to get back to sleep.
