POLL EXPLODES MYTH OF POOR TAKE UP OF WEB 2.0

Web 2.0 is more popular and widely used than sceptics would have people believe

London, UK – June 1st 2007 – A poll conducted by NetBenefit has revealed that 60% of respondents are actively using Web 2.0 technologies. Despite recent criticism that Web 2.0 is all marketing spin people feel there's real substance to the new technologies being deployed such as blogs, Ajax and mash-ups with 69% of companies disagreeing that Web 2.0 is just hype.

The survey, which was carried out amongst delegates at Internet World, asked respondents a series of questions about how they were actively using Web 2.0 in their business. The results also revealed that Web 2.0 is seen as a natural progression in the usage of Internet technology with 83% agreeing that it is an online 'evolution' rather than a radical step change in the way we use the World Wide Web.

Commenting on the findings of the research, Jonathan Robinson, COO at NetBenefit, says: “As podcasts, social bookmarking and the latest communications technologies become more mainstream, everyone’s getting excited about how businesses can benefit from a more collaborative way of working.

“Some Web 2.0 applications still have a long way to go before proving their worth but it’s undeniable that technology with so much potential to enable collaborative working and empowerment is here to stay. The popularity of social networking websites and also those websites containing user-generated content shows us that. Companies need to keep up and assess how Web 2.0 will add value to their organisation.”
